ABOUT Bikealot…
Bikealot LLC is an Austin area independent mechanic owned and operated full service South Austin neighborhood bicycle shop. Bikealot LLC was formed in March of 2012 as an extension of Bikealot’s Bicycle Service, which has operated in Austin, TX by Brad Wimberly, since 2003.
The name Bikealot came about during the time I worked as a bicycle courier in downtown Houston, TX. It was the only time in my life when I was not wrenching on bicycles full time. I had begun obsessing over bicycles around 1994 when I frequented Houston’s fabulous skate parks, half pipes and jumps throughout the city. I also begin my bike shop career then. After years of dedication to the soon to bloom 20”/BMX jump scene, I then discovered mountain biking while living in Missouri and was immediately hooked by its balance of solitude, nature, speed and form. The name “Bradbikealot” was given to me by a good friend and fellow Houston bicycle courier in the year 2000 when he learned that I had acquired three separate bicycle delivery jobs, commuted round trip each day, and would still occasionally hit the few trails we had after work. The nickname stuck with the other bike couriers and was often shortened to “Bikealot”.
Sometime in 2003 after deciding that Austin was home, I began using the name “Bikealot’s Bicycle Service” to account for the bicycle related business I was doing in Austin. This business consisted of restoring vintage bikes with more modern parts, building wheels, bikes, gluing tubular tires on and all kinds of service contract work for bicycle shops, amateur and professional cyclists, non-profits, road racing teams and any individual that needed my help with service or getting the right bicycle part or gear. “Bikealot’s Bicycle Service” had its grass roots start here in Austin working from home, coffee shops, other’s homes, racing sites and anywhere I could work to improve anyone’s ride.
The plan has always been to build the business into an Austin specific bicycle shop that emphasizes quality service and offers as much to the Austin bicycle scene as possible. I have never been happier with state of “Bikealot” and will continue to offer as much as possible to the Austin’s bicycling community.
We are always dedicated to supporting cyclist of all types in and around Austin who decide to ride. We provide bicycle service and sell all types of quality parts and accessories for you or your bike. We strive to select the best gear from companies we are proud to work with. At Bikealot you will find a thoughtful selection of city bikes, racks, bags, helmets, lights, gloves, fresh roasted coffee beans, bike specific clothing, locks and bicycle parts selected with both value and quality in mind. We have access to thousands of bicycle specific products and can often get what you need or want the very next day if it is not already on the shelf.
